HAFIZABAD - The union councils' secretaries took out a rally and staged a sit-in in front of the office of Local Government to press for the acceptance of their demands such as upgradation of their scales and awarding of service structures.

Led by District Secretaries Association President Farhan Amjad Tarar, the protesters raised slogans against the apathetic attitude of the department for not upgrading their scales and awarding service structures that they said were their basic rights.

They said, "The employees of other departments were given service structure and their scales have been upgraded but we have been neglected. The salaries of employees of other departments are being disbursed through the accounts office but their salaries were sent through the Chairman Union Council which creates multiple problems to them." They demanded payment of their salaries through District Accounts Office, upgradation of their scales and provision of service structure without further delay.

Meanwhile, the teachers of the district protested against the indifferent attitude of the District Accounts Officer Hafizabad for not paying their salaries according to the upgraded scales despite the fact that the AG office has directed the District Accounts Office to pay their salaries according to the upgraded scales.

Muttahida Mahaz Asatiza office-bearers said that in other districts of the province the teachers were being paid their salaries according to the upgraded scales but they have been ignored by the District Accounts Office. They called upon the authorities to do the needful otherwise they would be constrained to stage protest demonstrations against the District Accounts Office.

GANG BUSTED: Vanike Tarar police have smashed a gang of cattle-lifters which was involved in 22 cases and have arrested its ring leader Ahmad Faraz and two others.

The police have also smashed another gang of burglars and arrested its ringleader Tanveer alias Teeroo, Asia Bibi and seven others.

The police have smashed Paijoo gang of dacoits and arrested ten of its members including its ring leader Pervaiz alias Paijhoo. The police recovered five stolen heads of cattle, six tola gold ornaments, five stolen bikes, dozens of cell phones and lady purses worth over Rs. 3 million from all the three gangs.

Meanwhile, the district administration has directed the municipal authorities to shift filth depots from near the schools and colleges immediately to relieve the students and teachers from foul smell emanating from the filth and garbage and to prevent them from diseases.

Deputy Commissioner Saleha Saeed visited different localities in the city to review the progress of ongoing anti-encroachment drive and expressed her satisfaction over the success of the campaign to a great extent. She directed the anti-encroachment squad to keep vigilant eye over the push-cart owners and other encroachers who might surface due to any negligence of the staff. She also visited Sagar Road Park and Family Park and expressed her disappointment over the missing facilities and directed the civic authorities to ensure provision of all sorts of facilities in the parks with the cooperation of well-to-do people so as to provide better recreational facilities to the children and families for their better mental and physical growth.
