PESHAWAR - The reconciliatory jirga of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) has so far failed to make any breakthrough in striking a peace agreement between two rival factions fighting against each other in far-off Tirah valley, Khyber Agency. Former MNA and head of the jirga, Shujaaul Mulk, submitted a comprehensive report of the jirga's proceedings with both the warring factions; Lashkar-e-Islam and Ansarul Islam, to JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman here on Friday. The jirga held Ansarul Islam responsible for the deadlock in making any breakthrough. However, Maulana Fazlur Rehman directed the jirga members to hold another round of talks with the head of Ansarul Islam Qazi Mehboob to reach a peace agreement. In this connection, when JUI-F Provincial Secretary Information Abdul Jalil Jan was contacted, he clearly denied any deadlock in the talks and added that the jirga would soon pay another visit to Tirah to hold talks with Ansarul Islam. "Our meetings with Ansarul Islam and Lashkar-e-Islam were fruitful, as no one set any precondition. However, they have some reservations for which the jirga members will meet them again soon," he maintained. The Ansarul Islam led by Qazi Mehboob is stated to have been a brainchild of the former MNA from Khyber Agency, Maulana Khalilur Rehman, who was expelled from JUI when he voted in favour of President Musharraf during 2007 presidential elections against the party lines. Thus, the JUI-F jirga had a clear tilt towards Mangal Bagh-led Lashkar-e-Islam in the talks and due to which the jirga failed to make any breakthrough, the sources privy to talks told TheNation. It is worth mentioning here that 100 persons have so far been killed in the ongoing fight between the Ansarul Islam and Lashkar-e-Islam.
