ISLAMABAD - President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani have reiterated the government's firm resolve to deal with iron hand the militants trying to challenge government writ in FATA and some settled districts of the country. Both the leaders also emphasized the need for making the Tripartite Commission comprising ISAF, Pakistan and Afghanistan, more effective forum in the ongoing war against terror. They made these observations while talking to the Chief of Army Staff, General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, who held separate meetings with them on Friday. Well-informed sources told TheNation that meetings discussed the ongoing war on terror as well as issues relating to the national security. The COAS briefed the two leaders about the security situation in FATA and achievements of military operations in Swat and Hangu districts of NWFP. Sources said that they also reviewed multi-pronged government strategy to tackle terrorism and extremism including measures to enhance capacity building in FATA to contain spill of terrorism war from across the border. The sources said the visit of Prime Minister to USA also figured in the meetings.
