ISLAMABAD  - The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI), for the week ended on July 24, for the lowest income group up to Rs. 3,000, has registered increase of 0.60 percent over the previous week. The SPI for the week under review in the above mentioned group was recorded at 212.95 as against 211.68 registered in the previous week, according to data released by Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) here on Friday. The weekly SPI has been computed with base 2000-01=100 covering 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups and combined. The SPI for the combined group registered increase of 1.66 per cent by rising from 202.62 in the previous week to 205.98 in the week under review. As compared to the corresponding week of last year, the SPI for combined group in the week under review witnessed increase of 32.22 percent. The SPI for the groups falling in the income brackets of 3001-5000, 5001-12000 and above 12000 witnessed increase of 0.57, 0.80 and 2.57 respectively over the previous week. During the week under review average prices of 8 items registered decrease, while that of 31 items increased with the remaining 14 items' prices unchanged. The items which recorded decrease in their average prices during the week under review included bananas, potatoes, wheat flour (average quality), viol printed, red chillies, rice irri-6, lawn and vegetable ghee (loose). The items which registered increase in their prices included, tomatoes, diesel, petrol, kerosene, chicken (farm), garlic, masoor pulse (washed), LPG (11 kg cylinder.), tea (prepared), cooked dal, washing soap (Nylon), gram pulse (washed), wheat (average quality), curd, cooked beef, bread plain (mid size), egg hen (farm), onions, mustard oil, mutton, gur, milk (fresh), moong pulse (washed), shirting, salt (powdered), rice basmati (broken), firewood, coarse latha, beef, sugar and mash pulse (washed). The items with no change in their average prices during the week under review included, milk powdered (Nido), vegetable ghee (tin), cooking oil (tin), tea packet, cigarettes, sandal gents (Bata), sandal ladies (Bata), chappal spng.(Bata), electricity bulb (60wats), match box, bath soap (Lifebouy), gas charges (up to 3.3719 MMBTU), electricity charges and telephone local call.
