US lawmaker welcomes release of Pakistani-American

WASHINGTON: - US Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, co-chair of the Congressional Pakistan Caucus, on Wednesday met with Dr. Safdar Sarki, a Pakistani-American from Houston, who was recently released in Pakistan after his abduction two years ago while he was on a visit to Karachi. "I am proud to say that Dr. Safdar Sarki is a free man after tirelessly working with the Embassy of Pakistan, the U.S State Department, and the Pakistani Government. I am glad to report that justice has prevailed in Pakistan, and his release is a clear sign that democracy continues to flourish in this great nation. This doctor, husband, and father was my constituent and I am proud to have played a role in his release," Ms. Jackson said in a statement after meeting Dr. Sarki.
