LAHORE – Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa on Wednesday said if the PTI had gained some popularity at provincial level it was due to the arrogance and undemocratic demeanor of the PML-N.
“The Sharif’s believe in Mughal-style governance which is an undemocratic attitude. This has helped the PTI make some inroads into the PML-N’s vote bank in Punjab,” an official handout quoted the governor as having said in an interview given to a local news channel.
Khosa also cast aspersions on the national credentials of both the PML-N and the PTI, saying they still had a long way to go to achieve the status of national level parties. On the other hand, he added, the PPP which was the only political party equally popular in all the provinces owing to its time-tested political history and people-oriented manifesto.
Answering a question about the law and order situation in Punjab, the governor expressed his dissatisfaction, saying that the measures taken by the Punjab government to maintain order had failed to convince him. “When most of the police force is deployed at chief minister’s tents and other offices to provide security to a single person, how it could be expected of protecting the life and property of common citizens”, he observed.
