CDA chief for smooth water supply to residents

ISLAMABAD - Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), Engineer Farkhand Iqbal, has directed the water management wing of the authority to ensure smooth and regular water supply to the residents of the federal capital.
While talking to a delegation of the residents from Sector I-10 here on Wednesday in connection with the water shortage in the area, the Chairman CDA said that the main reason of water shortage was consistent power outage in the city that causing interruption in water supply to the residents, however, he added that CDA was in contact with the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) to resolve the issues of power outage and alternative means for water supply from other channels.
He said that CDA was introducing energy efficient tube-well with the cooperation of USAID. He said that work on the project has already been initiated to convert the outdated tube-well pumps into the energy efficient water supply pumps. He said that the new water supply pumps save approximately 2 MW electricity to the national grid.
The Chairman CDA said that the Authority had recently invited the services of private water tankers to meet the requirements of water supply on urgent basis. He said that CDA has also signed agreement with the Chinese companies for supply of water from Ghazi Barotha water channel to the twin cities.
Engineer Farkhand Iqbal said that CDA would install 110 MW power plant to make Islamabad load-shedding free city. He said that provision of best civic facilities to the residents of the city is our goal, adding that CDA is working on several projects of civic amenities including rapid bus transit project and extension of railway track from Sector I-9 to 9th Avenue. He said that he would soon visit in Sector I-10 and I-9 to resolve the outstanding issues and the missing facilities would be provided in these sectors on priority.
Online adds: With advent of summer season amid holy month of Ramazan, residents of the capital are facing acute shortage of water as suspension of water supply pipelines are adding to miseries of people.
The Capital Development Authority has failed to supply the water required by the residents.
Even in the condition of fasting, the residents have to travel long for getting water from the expensive water tanks and far away water wells in order to meet their requirements of water during the ‘Sehri’ and ‘Aftaari’ times.
Residents of sectors I-10/1, G-10, I-10/2, I-10/4 and I-9 have posed a strong protest against shortage of water supply, suspension of water supply pipelines and the receiving of money by the CDA in order to get tanker of water at resident’s doorstep.
“Even we pay huge taxes but we have to pay money for one tanker to get it to the doorstep when there is shortage of water, it is absolutely unfairness with the taxpayers”, a resident, Liaquat Shah said.
“The residents of twin cities have been facing severe water shortage in summers since last many years and despite tall claims by the authorities and successive governments, no new dam has been constructed yet”, a resident Sohail Abbasi stated.
The residents of I-10 are protesting for last 3 days, but the concerned authorities have not taken any step to eliminate troubles of the residents.
The residents of the capital have demanded of the CDA to restore water supply pipelines and water supply immediately.
