LAHORE – Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Syed Munawar Hasan has appealed to the world community, especially Muslim rulers, to exert pressure on the Myanmar government to stop its atrocities against Muslims and protect their basic human rights.
He was talking to a three-member delegation of Myanmar Muslims, headed by Noor Husain Arakani, that called on him at Mansoora on Wednesday. The delegation apprised him of the plight of Myanmar Muslims and the brutalities being perpetrated against them.
Arakani said millions of Myanmar Muslims were waiting at the borders of Bangladesh without any hope because the Burmese government had closed the Bangladesh border, creating hardships for the immigrants.
Munawar said all over the world, Muslims were being victimised, but the situation in Myanmar was alarming, because they were being tortured by the state machinery and the armed forces. Unfortunately, the world community, media and human rights bodies were completely silent on this matter.
He said that the JI had set up a relief fund for Myanmar Muslims. He appealed to the philanthropists to donate generously to help their brethren facing unprecedented atrocities.
Earlier, the leader of the delegation said that the Myanmar Muslims were being forced to covert to Buddhism, and on their refusal, they were being subjected to untold brutalities.
