Old woman ‘tortured’ to death

LAHORE – A good number of people staged a strong protest demonstration near Ravi Bridge shortly after officials of the City District Government (CDGL) ‘tortured’ an old woman to death in the Shahdara Town area on Wednesday.
They also blocked the road to protest against the killing, demanding stern action against the government officials who had launched a crackdown against the people for selling charity meat in the area.
Eyewitnesses said a good number of gypsies also staged a protest demonstration against the CDGL by blocking the main road for more than two hours, disrupting the traffic flow in the congested locality.
The protesters said Sughran Bibi, 70, died after CDGL officials tortured her. The City government launched the operation to kick out the gypsies selling charity meat near Ravi Bridge. Later, the police reached the spot and removed the body to the morgue for autopsy. Further investigations are underway.
