LAHORE – The PML-Q Punjab has requested the Lahore High Court chief justice to look into the flaws of the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) to save the provincial kitty from further losses.
Akram Chaudhry, a spokesman of the PML-Q, said on Wednesday that removing the U-turn in front of the Lahore General Hospital for carrying out the project was a serious injustice to the visiting patients.
He pleaded to the chief justice to constitute a commission for checking serious flaws in the BRTS in a scientific way to save the provincial kitty from further losses. He also asked if the traffic on 42 link roads from Gujjumatta to Shahadara benefit from the 70 billion project.
Akram said it would be unwise to pump Rs70 billion into a single project in the provincial capital, ignoring the traffic and road infrastructure of the entire province. He questioned if other transport companies were allowed to ply on Ferozpur Road after the launch of the BRTS. The PML-Q spokesman further asked from the provincial government when it would advertise the PC-1 of the BRTS.
Also, the Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) and various welfare organisations have protested the closure of divider in front of Lahore General Hospital at Ferozepur Road and termed it injustice to the patients coming to the emergency ward.
Civil Society representatives held a protest and staged a sit in outside the hospital to press for the demand of giving hassle free access to the entrance of the hospital.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, PMA office-bearers Dr Tanveer Anwar and Dr Izhar Chauhdry said this divider was made to save precious time and give easy access to the hospital emergency. They appealed to the Punjab Government to withdraw the decision in the larger interest of the patients.
