RAWALPINDI – The girls once again outshone by grabbing first three positions in the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) annual examination 2012 held under the aegis of Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE).
According to results, announced by the board during a ceremony held at Government Asghar Mall College on Wednesday, Wajiha Khan clinched first position, not only in the Rawalpindi board but also in all the boards of Punjab, by scoring 1022 marks out of total 1050. Similarly, Izza Azam grabbed 2nd position by obtaining 1016 marks while Hira Amjad got third position in the board with 1014 marks.
Among the boys, Muhammad Adress stood first with 1011 marks our of 1050 and Muhammad Atif Khan and Muhammad Nauman Zafar shared second position by scoring 1009 marks whereas Abdul Rehman and Muhammad Bilal also shared third position with 1008 marks.
The ceremony was attended by Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor as chief guest, BISER Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf, Controller Examination, Secretary, parents, students and people belonging to various walks of life.
Out of the total 111,581 students appeared in the annual SSC examination 2012, as many as 68,725 students passed the exam. The passing percentage was 62 per cent, the highest passing ratio in the last eight years.
Among boys in Science Group, Muhammad Owais of Rediant Star School, Roll umber
141582, got first position securing marks 1011. The student of Cadet College Hasanabdal Muhammad Atif Khan, Roll number 87530 and Muhammad Nauman roll number 87560 shared second positions by obtaining 1009 marks while Abdul Rehman of the same school and Muhammad Bilal Ibrahim also shared 3rd position by getting 1008 marks.
In General Group, Saeed Zubair, the student of Daral-Aloom Muhammdia Rizvia grabbed first position by scoring 896 marks. Adil Mehmood Kot Kalian Noon Village got second position with 887 marks whereas Muhammad Umer Raheminia Rizvia Sowan Jhelum got third position securing marks 881.
The top three position holder girls also occupied on top three positions in Science Group among girls. All the top position holder students, interestingly, represented private public schools in the city while students studying in government run schools showed very bad results with majority of the failed students belonging to state-run educational institutions.
While addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister for Planning and Development Chaudhry Abdul Ghafoor said that Chief Minister (CM) Punjab Mian Shahbaz Sharif would give guard of honors to all the position holder students. The minister himself offered his chair to the top position holder Wajiha Khan in recognition of her brilliant academic performance.
He said that Punjab government was striving hard to provide the education to all and to facilitate students to get enrolled in schools under Punjab Education Foundation (PEF) that provides free of cost education to poor people. Chaudhry felicitated his heartiest congratulation to the position holders. Speaking on the occasion, BISER Chairman Dr Muhammad Ashraf said that the examination board would strive for securing best positions in Punjab by advising management of schools to improve their performances. He also congratulated the top position holders.
