Lahore- The funeral prayer of renowned journalist, publisher and editor-in-chief of Nawa-i-Waqt group late Majeed Nizami was offered in Lahore today.

The funeral prayer was attended by a large number of prominent personalities from all walks of life and general public. Punjab’s Governor Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif, Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and several federal and provincial ministers also attended. Majeed Nizami passed away early Saturday morning in Lahore at the age of 86. Majeed Nizami had been in the field of journalism for almost half a century.

During his student days, he actively participated in the Pakistan Movement. He was awarded the sword of honor and title of Mujahid-e-Tehreek-e-Pakistan in recognition of his contributions for the cause of independence.

President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, and Information Minister Pervez Rashid have expressed grief and sorrow over the sad demise of veteran journalist. They lauded services of Majeed Nizami for promotion of media in the country.
