ISLAMABAD-The relatives of the patient who died a day earlier (Wednesday) at the Polyclinic due to erroneous transfusion of blood Thursday registered an FIR against the doctors of the Federal Government Services Hospital (Polyclinic. These doctors have been accused of committing criminal negligence during her medical check-up. The brother of the deceased, Muhammad Arif, Advocate of Lahore High Court, lodged an FIR under section 319 with the Aabpara Police against Dr Javid, Acting In Charge of Surgical Unit 1 and Dr Muhmmad Bilal, Medical Officer of the same ward. On the other hand, the relatives of the deceased are protesting against the exclusion of Dr Javid who supervised the surgery of the patient from the entire report, as hospital administration did not suspend him. As per details, two female patients having similar first name Nudrat were admitted in the hospital. One of them namely Nudrat Rafique was suffering from breast cancer while the other Nuzhat Amir was admitted in the Gynaecology Department and she was supposed to under go C-section. On the same day, both the patients were scheduled to be taken for surgery with difference of one hour. At 11:00am, Nudrat Rafique was taken into the Operation Theatre and during surgery instead of being transfused her blood group O+ve she was administered the blood group of other patient that was AB+ve that resulted in her immediate death. Despite efforts from the hospital administration, the aggrieved party did not agree to reconcile with them and lodged an FIR against the accused. Around 1:00pm my sister was brought back into the ward and within 30 minutes her condition started deteriorating and we rushed to the on-duty doctors but despite repeated attempts they did not come to treat her that resulted in her death, said Muhammad Arif, brother of the deceased. He said that they wanted termination of officials whom sheer negligence resulted in untimely death of her sister. According to the report of departmental inquiry conducted by the hospital administration, three officials, including Laboratory Technician Khurshid Anwar, In charge Nurse Anaesthesia, Shaheen Akhtar and Dr Muhmmad Bilal, Medical officer have been suspended over charges of negligence and carelessness in issuing wrong blood to Nudrat Rafique. Later on, another doctor K.D Bhatti was also suspended. According to the medical and legal procedure if the accused refuse to accept findings of the inquiry report then autopsy of the deceased could be conducted while the family of the deceased is opposing postmortem as it considers there is no ambiguity in the case. The three-member inquiry team to probe into the matter headed by Dr Iftikhar Malik, including Dr Riffat Shaheen and Farooq Malik would submit its report today (Friday) to the Health Minister and on the basis report further action would be taken. According to the hospital sources it is feared that more officials can be suspended.
