Lahore High Court Rawalpindi bench acquitted former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif in helicopter reference case. The divisional bench comprised Justice Tariq Shamim and Justice Saeed Ijaz announced the verdict today. The bench had adjourned the hearing of Nawaz Sharif helicopter case on Wednesday till Friday (today) after hearing the arguments of the NAB lawyer. The NAB lawyer argued that Nawaz Sharif returned to Pakistan in 2007 and he should have approached the court at that time. He prayed for dismissal of the case as it has become time-barred. The former prime minister has challenged the 14-year sentence and Rs50 million fine punishment announced by an accountability court for alleged illegal purchase of a helicopter, on July 22 in 2002. The petitioner in his appeal prayed for setting aside the judgment as it was announced due to political reasons.
