LAHORE - The Lahore High Court Thursday summoned District Police Officer Faisalabad after it was transpired during the hearing of a case that girls maternal uncle had given her hand in marriage to an old man only to earn money, observing that giving girls hands in marriage against money is tantamount to their sale that is a heinous crime. Justice Ahsan Bhoon hearing a writ petition seeking cancellation of a theft case against Umma Kalsooms second real uncle who had given her shelter after she escaped from her husband Haji Khalils custody, ordered cancelling the theft case. The court has ordered registration of case against girls husband, his first uncle and the investigation officer. Unfolding the whole saga before the court, the girl stated that after the death of Khalils wife(her parental aunt) her first maternal uncle forcibly got her marriage registered with Khalil to earn money. He fled from Khalils house and got shelter with her second uncle Aslam in Faisalabad and filed a dissolution of marriage case there. But her husband Khalil got registered a fake case against Aslam just to threaten him. After recording girls statement the judge quashed theft case and ordered registration of case against girls husband, first uncle and investigation officer. The court said IO did not proceed against the culprits despite the fact that Khalil had admitted before him that he had paid Rs 4 lac to get the hand of girl. LHC seeks report from PEPCO chief engineer The Lahore High Court on a petition against promotion of 100 diploma holders as junior engineer has sought a report from chief engineer (admn) PEPCO. The report was called on a petition moved by one Hafiz Saif Ullah. Petitioner said that this post was only for electric diploma holders but PEPCO appointed all diploma holders, which deprived him of his vested right as electric diploma holder. He requested to declare the promotions as illegal and also direct the PEPCO to promote only qualified persons.
