OUR STAFF REPORTER LAHORE A 40-year-old UK-returnee went on the rampage here on Saturday, gunning down his maternal niece and two other close relatives. The sad incident, occurring over a property dispute, took place in the Nulakha area. The killer, identified as Khalid Ameer, was at large, while the police were raiding to nab him. The deceased were identified as 24-year-old Faiza, Mazhar Saeed and Khursihd Anwar. The condition of another girl, Hina, 22, was said to be critical at the Mayo Hospital. An anonymous neighbour said that Khalid Ameer was depressed from the last several days as his close relatives, especially his sisters, had flatly refused to give him his share in the paternal property. He demanded his share from his sisters numerous times, but they lingered on the issue. He quarrel with them on the same issue a couple of days back, the neighbour added. Police investigators said the accused approached the home of one of his sisters located in Daral Shikoh area in Nulakha police precincts and sprayed straight bullets on his two nieces namely Faiza and Hina, leaving them in a pool of blood. According to them, the sister of the accused had already hidden herself inside a room and locked her up as a result of which her life was saved. City Police Division SP (Operations) Dr. Asif Shahzad told this scribe that minutes after the incident took pace in Nulakha, Khalid Ameer reached his brother-in-laws home located at Tufail Road, Cantonment, where he opened indiscriminate fires on his brother-in-law namely Mazhar Saeed and his (Mazhar) brother Khurished Anwar. Yes, they died on the spot while the criminal managed to flee from the crime scene, Dr. Shahzad confirmed. The SP further said that apparently it seemed the accused was a mentally retarded person otherwise it was quite impossible to commit such heinous acts of crime in different timings but on the same day and in connection with the same issue. Dr. Shahzad, however, said police teams have been constituted, which are raiding but the accused was still at large.
