Some of the development schemes undertaken for the socio-economic prosperity of Noorpur Thal could not be completed within the stipulated time due to paucity of funds and other contributory factors, sources told The Nation here the other day.The mega project of Greater Thal Canal has been delayed due to paucity of funds, although phase one of the project has been completed but phase-II could not be completed still due to lack of funds from the Ministry of Water and Power.The Nation also learnt that some politicians were also opposed to the completion of the mega project.Social workers Advocate Malik Tahir Mehmood, Advocate Raja Muhammad Ashraf, Haji Noor Gul and PML-N local leader Malik Aziz Hussain Jara expressed grave concern over the inordinate delay in the completion of the mega project, urging the government to remove all the hurdles in the way of timely completion of the project in the large interest of farmers of the Thal.According to Farmers Welfare Association of the Tehsil, the mega project of GTC is very essential for the prosperity of these desert areas. PML-N MNA Malik Shakir Bashir Awan, MPA Malik Muhammad Waris Kallu, District President Dr Ghous Muhammad Khan Niazi and PML-N local leader Malik Muhammad Khalid Awan demanded the government to take strict action in this regard.Talking to the media on the occasion, the Commissioner said that the Punjab government had been taken some special measure for the renovation of the Darbar and he ensured to the administration of the temple that the government would take some more steps in this regards. On the occasion one of the followers of the Darbar Sahib appealed to the government and Ministry Of Railway to restore the train service from Lahore to Shakargarh section. The commissioner ensured the followers to forward their demand to the authorities concerned.
