LAHORE - Kashmir is our jugular vein and without resolving the key issue of Kashmir, no peace accord in the region would be fruitful. The only solution of the issue lies in honouring the United Nation resolutions as per aspirations of the people of the valley.

This was stated by Federal Minister for Kashmir, Gilgit and Baltistan Ch Muhammad Barjis Tahir while talking to TheNation on Tuesday. The minister also called on TheNation Editor-in-Chief Majid Nizami. He said every Pakistani believes in sayings of the Quaid that Kashmir is vital for Pakistan. He criticised those who wanted to award MFN status to the neighbouring India that usurped rights of people. He also chided Indian race for destructive weapons.  He said he was not against developing relations with the neighbouring countries including India but the core issues must be resolved first of all. He said the global community had been clear since World War-II that table talk could do what otherwise war could not.

Talking about tourists’ murder in the Northern Areas of Pakistan Barjis Tahir said he believed that the Gilgit government should have accepted responsibility for the incident. He also defended federal government’s act suspending the IG and the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan.

“If the GB government thinks the negligence was on the part of security agencies or police, it should proceed against them,” the minister was of the view. He said the PPP government in Sindh and PTI in KPK reflected PML-N’s harmony and respect of people’s mandate.
