CM pledges to protect expats

LAHORE - CM Shehbaz has said the overseas Pakistanis are ambassadors of the country and their rights will be protected.

“Their woes will be addressed through the Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab,” the CM said during a meeting which reviewed the Commission’s performance.

The CM held no-one will be allowed to usurp rights of the overseas Pakistanis and the government will safeguard their hard-earned money. He vowed the properties of the overseas Pakistanis will be protected at all costs and those grabbing the same would taken strictly taken to task.

The meeting decided to set up police stations for helping Pakistanis living abroad. These police stations will be set up in those cities on priority basis of which a large number of people are living abroad. Punjab Inspector General Police has been directed to immediately implement the programme of establishing overseas police stations.

After establishment of overseas police stations, front desks will also be set up at airports to resolve problems of Pakistanis returning to the country.

Shehbaz Sharif further directed that the cases pertaining to Board of Revenue and districts should be decided on merit and justice as early as possible so that relief could be provided to overseas Pakistanis in real sense.

He also called for the participation of DCOs and DPOs concerned, urging effective coordination between the administrative departments for resolving the matters relating to Overseas Pakistanis Commission.

The CM ordered the Chief Secretary to preside over a meeting of Overseas Pakistanis Commission Punjab after every two months while he will review the efficiency of the commission on quarterly basis. He said that 76 seats have been allocated on merit for the children of overseas Pakistanis in medical colleges.

Shehbaz also appreciated the performance of IGP Punjab and Overseas Pakistanis Commission Additional DG Capt (r) Mobeen with regard to disposal of cases relating to police.

Punjab Overseas Commissioner Afzaal Bhatti gave a detailed briefing on the efficiency of the commission.
