The ANP and PML-N are in a logjam condition over the issue of renaming NWFP, while ANP wants it to be named as Pakhtoonkhwa, PML-N is dithering and wants it to be named in a hybrid form as Abaseen Pakhtoonkhwa. However, what is required is a political give and take in such a situation. PML-N could ask ANP for agreeing to Kalabagh Dam in Punjab in return for agreeing to the name of Pakhtoonkhwa. In any case, there is no harm in calling the North West Frontier Province as the land of the Pakhtoons. Just like Baluchistan which has a large population of Pathans, who do not object to the province being called Baluchistan. Nevertheless, if our political stalwarts thought of conciliatory modes of decision making they could come out in a win-win situation for every one. But the trouble is that no one thinks in a positive way, in order to find appropriate solutions to resolve the issue so as to satisfy both the parties. However I believe that it is only possible by a policy of give and take. Would the two party heads consider the above proposal in a dispassionate way? - DR M. YAQOOB BHATTI, Lahore, March 24.
