SC seeks report on fake licences

ISLAMABAD Supreme Court on Thursday directed the DG FIA to submit a detailed report on 32,000 fake arm licences issued by the Interior Ministry within one week. Earlier, it was informed by the Governments counsel to the court that these licences were issued by the Ministry to the near and dear ones of the Members of the Parliament following their letters in this regard. A three members bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising of Justice Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry and Justice Khalilur Rehman Ramday heard the case. The court expressed its apprehensions over the increasing role of touts in the affairs of Interior Ministry for issuance of the licences. Justice (Retd) Tariq Mehmood, counsel for the main accused Shezad, apprised the court that his clients life was in danger and requested the court to provide sufficient security to his client. Upon his request, the court commented that he could enjoy the highest security in the jail. The court adjourned the hearing of the case for one week.
