ISLAMABAD - Ambassador Germany in Pakistan Dr Michael Koch and Ambassador in Afghanistan Rudiger Kong in a meeting with Minister for States and Frontier Region (SAFRON) Shaukat Ullah have expressed their concern over the alleged misappropriation of funds in the Refugees Affected and Hosting Area (RAHA) project, The Nation learnt here on Friday. When The Nation contacted for comments on the issue, the minister's cell phone was off. However, the minister's spokesperson denied discussion on the said issue during their meeting. He said that the German delegation discussed the issue of bilateral interest including the development of the FATA. To a question, he said that issues relating to enhancement of further cooperation in RAHA project as well as safe return of Afghan refugees to their homeland was also discussed. It is to be mentioned that ANP Senator Zahid Khan during the last Senate session had levelled allegation of misappropriation worth million of rupees in RAHA project in the name of Afghan refugees. On this, the Special Standing Committee of Senate is probing the case. The RAHA project is supported by German government through German NGOs - GIZ and KFW. While talking to The Nation, Zahid, who is member of the probe committee, alleged that PPP MNAs and MPAs were issued fund from this said project for the development activities in Lower and Upper Dir despite the fact that Afghan refugees never settled in the said areas. However, no development has been made in these areas as shown in the project documents. To a question, he said that the probe committee would pay a surprise visit to the project sites to verify the implementation on ground that had been shown on papers.
