KCCI team to meet Hafeez today

KARACHI - Federal Finance Minister Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh will hold an important meeting with the representatives of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) on March, 26 (Saturday) in Islamabad to discuss the issues related to the withdrawal of exemption of General Sales Tax (GST) on five leading zero-rated export oriented sectors. The federal government, despite the strong opposition from the FBR, is expected to slash the rate of sales tax from 17 percent to 3-5 percent on the local sale of five zero-rated sectors including textile, leather, carpet, surgical and sports goods in a bid to protect these five sectors, especially textile from facing a severe liquidity crunch, according to the sources. It might be mentioned here that the chamber, representing the business community, has had held several rounds of meetings with the Chairman FBR and Federal Finance Minister at the KCCI office since the presidential ordinance with regard to the 17 percent imposition of Sales Tax on zero-rated sectors issued.
