LAHORE Religious, religio-political and opposition parties held rallies and demonstrations across the country including the City on Friday to express anger and protest against desecration of the Holy Quran at Florida Church. On the call on religious and religio-political parties, khatibs delivered sermon on Seerat-un-Nabi (PBUH) and stature of the Holy Quran and condemned blasphemous act of priests at Florida Church during Jumma prayers. Resolutions were also passed against Terry Jones, Wyne Sapp and the US for the worst form of terrorism against Islam and Muslims. Besides big rallies in major cities, demonstrations were also held outside mosques after Jumma prayers. The speakers condemned the US and Florida Church priests for burning the Holy Book. They also blasted the rulers in Pakistan for freeing Raymond Davis and criminal silence over growing drone attacks in tribal areas. Highly charged participants also chanted slogans against Florida Church priests, the US and western countries for anti-Islam activities. In Lahore, Tehreek Hurmat-e-Rasool (PBUH) held a mammoth rally at Faisal Chowk. The participants were carrying flags inscribed with Kalma Tayyaba and placards and banners inscribed with the slogans against Terry Jones and the US. They also burnt the US flags and effigies of condemned priests Terry Jones and Wyne Sapp. Addressing the participants, JUI-F leader Maulana Amjad Khan said that the US and the West were creating restlessness in the world by allowing blasphemy and the burning of the Holy Quran. He also condemned the US ambassador for the statement that constitution allows freedom of expression. He said that the Muslims would defend the sanctity of the Holy Quran till the last drop of their blood. Nazim-e-Aala Jamiat Ahle Hadith Ibtesam Elahi Zaheer said that it was a pity that the NGOs getting dollars from the US were silent over the tragic incident of burning of the Holy Book. Saifuddin Saif said that the churches in the US were converting into mosques, which was a solid proof of truth of the Holy Quran and Islam. He said that the blasphemers would face condemnation in their lives. Addressing a rally outside Lahore Press Club, Allama Riaz Hussain threatened a long march from Karachi to Islamabad if the US ambassador was not expelled by April 7. He said a Shariat court comprising 500 ulema had declared Terry Jones an international terrorist for damaging world peace and announced capital punishment for him. He announced holding of protest demonstrations outside US embassies in 45 countries for failure of Washington in taking action against the Florida Church priest. Sahibzada Fazle Karim demanded convening a session of the Organisation of Islamic Countries as well as of Islamic Summit Conference to announce establishment of an Islamic United Nations. Jamaat-e-Islami held a protest demonstration outside Mansoora at Multan Road against the desecration of the Holy Quran. The participants were carrying flags, placards and banners inscribed with slogans against Terry Jones and the US. They also chanted slogans against the priests and demanded capital punishment for the heinous act of burning the Holy Quran.
