KARACHI - Small traders are backbone and voice of KCCI, Talat Mahmood, Senior Vice President-KCCI said while addressing to a delegation of 40 shopkeepers of Shahab Uddin Market led by Saleem at KCCI. He welcomed the delegation at KCCI and briefed about KCCI that it deals all issues pertaining to small, medium and large scales trading and manufacturing entities of the city. KCCI has 17000 members and is the 8th largest Chamber of the world by member. Pakistan has 47 Chambers of Commerce and other 46 Chambers do not have that much members collectively. He said that BMG, headed by Chairman, Siraj Kassam Teli, has been running KCCI and fulfilling its responsibility and duties for last 13 years. He revealed that this meeting is arranged on very short notice as requested by Saleem because small traders are life blood of the economy of the country and the chamber. During the meeting, Saleem, representing Shahab Uddin Market, informed Talat Mahmood about displacement of their shops under an agreement made between market and City Government that alternate place would be constructed and provided within 18 months which was agreed in 2007, since then, no progress has been made so far. The meeting was largely attended by members including, Ilyas memon, President, Saddar Alliance of Market Association, Ather Firoz and Abdul Samad, Vice President, Saddar Alliance of Market Associations. 1
