MIAMI – Aisamul Haq Qureshi of Pakistan and Julien Rojer of Netherlands made a narrow escape in the pre-quarterfinal of the Sony Open Tennis Championship in Miami as they defeated Treat Huey of Philippines and Dominic Inglot of GBR in a very thrilling match.
The fifth seeded pair of Qureshi and Rojer dropped the first set 4-6 and looked to be facing an upset defeat but they made a comeback and took the second set 6-3 to level it at 6-3. Both the pairs showed their class and fought at their best in the deciding set. Each pair had match points and could finish it a lot earlier but both pairs refused to give up kept fighting. After a long battle, Aisam and Julien nailed it and took the set 14-12. The Pakistani-Dutch pair will face Nicolas Almagro and Olivier Marach for a place in the semifinals. The Austrian-Spanish pair handed an upset loss to third seeds Mahesh Bhupathi and Daniel Nestor.
