Secretary Election Commission Ishtiaq Ahmed has said that article 62 and 63 of the Constitution would be fully implemented and any candidate not fulfilling the requirements of the these articles will stand disqualified.
Talking to media, Secretary Election Commission said that the Supreme Court directives are that the forthcoming general elections should be held in a transparent manner.
He said the Election Commission and other concerned organizations exercise is that clean and honest people are elected for representation in the parliament.
The Secretary said a cell has been set up in the Election Commission for scrutinizing nomination papers.
He said out of 69 fake degree case 27 have been cleared while 34 cases have been sent to the concerned District Police Officers throughout the country for further action.
He said a 4 member committee including a senior official from Higher Education Commission has also been set up on the matter of fake degrees.
He also said that the case of Jamshed Dasti has also been sent to the relevant court for a decision.
Over the issue of delimitation of Karachi’s constituencies, the Secretary Election Commission said that section 10-A of the Delimitation of Constituencies Act of 1974 empowers the ECP to make amendments, alterations or modifications in the final list of constituencies ‘ as it feels necessary’.
