SHEIKHUPURA/HAFIZABAD/SARGODHA - At least eight persons including a woman were killed and eight others injured in separate incidents of violence, suicide and road accidents over the past 24 hours.

According to detail, in Sheikhupura a businessman who had gone missing was found dead in a field adjacent to Housing Colony here the other day. The deceased identified as Khalid Saeed, a resident of Housing Colony was an iron merchant. On Friday he went to nearby mosque to offer Fajr prayer but did not return, stated his brother Shah Saeed. He said that on the same day an unidentified caller contacted the family from his brother cell phone and demanded Rs20 million ransom for his release. He claimed that the caller informed that his brother was in their custody and that he would be killed if the ransom was not paid. Shah Saeed added that after sometime he again contacted the caller and asked him to reduce the ransom amount and informed him about the time and place. But later the family received no message from the abductors and found the dead body of Khalid Saeed lying in field. The social circles and civic society of the city while condemning the gruesome incident, demanded the police high-ups to prevent the growing incident kidnapping for ransom.

In another incident a truck driver was shot dead on resistance during a dacoity on Sargodha Road near Khanqah Dogran. The deceased 25-year-old Karamat was on the way to Sheikhupura when some unidentified highwaymen intercepted him near Khanqah Dogran. They however shot at and killed him when he put up resistance. The Khanqah Dogran Police registered a case and started investigation.

In HAFIZABAD, seven persons including a woman were seriously injured when some citizens of Wali Town indulged in firing following a quarrel over a brawl erupted over a cock fighting.  The Rescue-1122 squad rushed the injured including Zebun Nisa, Majid Ali, Jamshed, Saqib, Ghulam Muhammad and Ali Abass to DHQ Hospital where condition of two of them is stated to be critical.

According to source, cock fighting between Ahsan and Majid Ali groups was going on in Wali Town when Ahsan and Majid Ali exchanged harsh words. Thereupon, Ahsan group allegedly opened firing as a result of which seven persons were injured.  The police have registered a case against Ahsan, Akmal and 17 others.

Similarly in SARGODHA, three persons were killed separate mishaps.

As per detail, a student of Class 10th Muhammad Ibrar, son of Mulazim Hussain, a resident of village 71/NB was killed when two armed accused Farhan and his accomplice opened fire on him here in the remit of Jhal Chakian Police on Monday. A Jhal Chakian Police team led by SHO Inspector Amjad Jalal reached the scene and shifted the body for autopsy to DHQ Hospital. According to preliminary investigation, the accused shot the student dead over a scuffle on minor issue two days back. In another incident, a youth drowned into the Jhelum River. It was learnt that an unknown youth was taking bath in the river near at Kalas Sharif village. All of the sudden he went into deep water and drowned. Despite strenuous efforts, the body could not be recovered so far.

Meanwhile, a speeding bus crushed a motorcyclist to death and another sustained severe injures near 85 Jhal. Reportedly Saqlain along with Hamza was on the way back home when they reached 85 Jhal, a speeding bus hit their motorbike. Resultantly Saqlain died instantly due to sever fatal injuries while Hamza was rushed to hospital in critical condition. The bus driver managed to escape from the scene. 

In yet another incident a dejected person committed suicide by jumping in front of train here on Monday. 35-year-old Ejaz came to railway track near Bajwa Colony where Karachi-bound Millat Express was coming from Sargodha railway station. The speeding train shattered his body. Police shifted the body to DHQ hospital for legal proceedings.

In MANDI BAHAUDDIN, a young man was shot dead over old enmity. According to details, Mukthar, son of Nazir, a resident of Chak 31 in Malikwal Tehsil was serving as warden in District Jail Gujranwala. The other day he came to his village on leave but as he reached near his village his opponent spotted him and fired on him. Resultantly, Mukhtar died on the spot. The Miana Gondal Police have registered FIR against the accused.

In TOBA TEK SINGH, a farmer murdered his wife over a minor domestic dispute in Chak 337/JB near Nawan Lahore on Monday. Both Mumtaz and deceased Kalsoom allegedly exchanged harsh words over some issue at which Mumtaz attacked her with a sharp chopper and killed her on the spot.
