ISLAMABAD - In a bid to provide security to former prime ministers including Nawaz Sharif, Raja Pervez Ashraf, Chaudhary Shujaat Hussein, Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani and former President Pervez Musharraf, higher authorities of Islamabad capital territory police have decided to provide as many as 500 policemen including senior and junior staff. According to a source, these VIPs would be provided with required security personnel during current week while vacant posts would be filled by fresh recruits.

“We already have shortage of policemen. However, former prime ministers and the presidents would be provided with required security at any cost,” a senior police officer told TheNation on Monday.

When contacted a spokesperson of Islamabad Capital police said there was no reluctance on the part of the ICT police to provide security to VIPs.

“We have always provided fool-proof security to all including VIPs and the ordinary people. Hence, the outgoing PM would also be provided with required security,” said the spokesperson.

Earlier, there were media reports that some of the police officers including senior and junior both, have refused to join especial security escorts that that were constituted following a notification issued from Prime minister Secretariat on directions of the outgoing Prime Minister Raja pervez Ashraf. it is pertinant to mention here that ( former) Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf issued a notification to asking concerned authorities to provide fool-proof security for himself and former Prmie Ministers including Yousuf razaGilani and Chaudhary Shujaat Hussein a couple of days back.

It is pertinent to mention here that apart from former prime ministers and the president, some former ministers (federal) have also asked the Interior Ministry to beef up their security following the fresh threats they were receiving from some militant organizations.

“We have received applications from some former ministers who have demanded elaborate security measures for them following the fresh threats they received from militant organizations recently,” said a senior official of interior Ministry while talking to TheNation on Monday adding that the Interior Ministry was evaluating their request. He, however, did not reveal names of the ministers who were seeking security.

Regarding security to be provided to ex-President Pervez Musharraf who is expected in Islamabad tomorrow, he said that the former president has been provided with commandoes to ensure foolproof security for him.
