ISLAMABAD - The internal rifts of Pakistan Muslim League Likeminded (PML-LM) on certain issues and unfulfilled promise for seat adjustment formula with PML-N leadership is fast leading the faction for disintegration, TheNation learnt reliably. In order to remove misconception and ambiguous situation the main PML-LM leadership is going to hold decisive meeting with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif today (Tuesday), party sources shared, desiring not be named.

The PML-LM is not only currently ‘make and break’ with PML(N) due to non-fulfilment of promise to agree on 11 percent seat adjustment formula with them but also the party members have started establishing contacts with other parties, they said. Because of such situation PML-LM two-member delegation could also show flexibility in their previous demand of 30 seats in National Assembly with PML-N leadership in today’s (Tuesday) meeting, they said.

When contacted, Chairman Steering Committee PML-LM Salim Saifullah confirmed meeting of his party’s stalwarts Arbab Ghulam Rahim (President) and Hamid Nasir Chattaha (Chairman) with PML-N leadership Nawaz Sharif to sort out seat adjustment formula.

“This could be decisive round with PML-N leadership as matter is pending for long time,” Saifullah said, adding that if the meeting remained fruitless than party might decide to seat adjustment with other parties including PTI, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) etc. To a question, he said PML-LM would decide to contest with the emblem of ‘Leaf’ after this crucial meeting with PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif. He further remarked that ‘Leaf’ is a good election symbol and familiar to many. To yet another question about failure of talks between the leadership of both the faction, PML-M chairman said they could contact with other political parties in otherwise situation. “Our first preference for seat adjustment will be PML-N and if this could not be materialize could find other options,” he maintained. Meanwhile, sources said that party has almost decided to contest in upcoming elections with the symbol of ‘Leaf’ and has also started awarding tickets in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

It may be noted here that Likeminded team, led by Saleem Saifullah, had met with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leadership under the command of Shahbaz Sharif on March 5 to reach a middle way regarding the seat adjustments or the electoral alliance It is relevant to note here PML-LM president and former chief minister Sindh Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has recently returned back to the country after spending five years in self-exile in the UAE.

Rahim reportedly left the country soon after he was attacked by some enraged political activists following his oath ceremony during the first Sindh Assembly session in April 2008 is scheduled to land at Allama Iqbal International Airport Lahore on Wednesday.

The Sindh Assembly had already declared his seat vacant in March 2012 due to his pro-longed absence, but his party had challenged it and the case is still pending before Sindh High Court. Some MPAs and ministers had also demanded the arrest of Dr Rahim on his arrival, alleging different reasons.
