QUETTA - Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi on Monday wrote a letter to the Ministry of Water and Power, maintaining that Qesco should be exempted from power supply quota and supply of electricity to Balochistan should be increased. He said that if power supply to Balochistan were not increased, the power shortfall would badly damage agriculture in the province as the Balochistan Farmers Action Committee was already holding protest against power shortage. Magsi writes that instead of increasing power quota for Balochistan, it has been reduced to 350 megawatts while the electricity requirement has gone up to 1550 megawatts.  The letter reads that by completing the projects of Dadu-Khuzdar and Dera Ghazai Khan Loralai transmission lines, the electricity issue in the province could be resolved.  He said that law and order situation of the province might deteriorate due to the electricity shortfall which was needed to be addressed immediately. The farmers gave a complete shutter down and wheel-jam strike call in Balochistan on March 30 due to acute power shortage. They say that they are getting electricity for only 2 to 4 hours a day that has destroyed the agriculture of the province.
