QUETTA - Pakistan Muslim League-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain has said that PML-Q is the biggest party in the country and will surprise the masses by securing maximum seats in the upcoming elections.

Shujaat, accompanied by PML-Q General Secretary Mushahid Hussain, provincial leaders, Asim Kurd Giloo, Jaffar Khan Mandokhel and others, expressed these views while addressing a press conference on Monday.

Shujaat and Mushahid arrived in Quetta to meet the party leaders and finalise the names of PML-Q candidates for the upcoming elections. The PML-Q president felicitated the people of Balochistan over the nomination of the caretaker prime minister from their province. He said his party had won maximum seats in Balochistan in the last elections.

He said PML-Q had a strong position in Balochistan and would again win maximum seats in the forthcoming polls. PML-Q enjoyed majority in Balochistan in 2008 elections, but they gave power in dowry, he remarked without disclosing whom the dowry was given.

To a query, Shuhjaat said there was no reality in the claims that PML-Q had become weak, adding it would give a surprise to the people in the polls. To another query, he said they had recorded their statements to the commission on Lal Masjid and Jamia Hafsa.

On the occasion, Mushahid said the purpose of their visit to Quetta was to discuss the upcoming elections with the party leaders. They would also go to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi in connection with the election campaign, they added.

“PML-Q is united and active; we have the best team in Balochistan, which is all set for the polls,” he claimed. He further claimed PML-Q was the largest party and would succeed in the coming elections with an overwhelming majority and form its govt. “We have also made seat-to-seat adjustments in some places in Balochistan,” he added.

Responding to a question, he said talks were underway with PPP on electoral adjustments and they had also held talks with President Zardari and Faryal Talpur in this connection. He said they had been assured that the nationalist parties in Balochistan would not repeat the mistake of boycotting the elections as the future of the country lied in free and fair elections.

To a query, he said there was no dictatorship in PML-Q and the authority of issuing tickets in Balochistan had been given to the provincial leadership which would complete the process after consulting all the party leaders.

To yet another query, he said he had met the Balochistan governor in his personal capacity, adding the delegations of JUI-F, Balochistan National Party and Raisnai had also met the governor.
