LAHORE: A powerful ‘explosion’ triggered terror in the entire Shadbagh area on Tuesday.

A passerby sustained minor injuries in the blast which took place outside a shoe factory, rescue workers said.

There were conflicting reports about the nature of the blast. Eyewitnesses said that a cracker was exploded outside factory. Reportedly, unidentified extortionists were demanding Rs500,000 from the factory owner.  However, the police rejected these reports while stating that the blast was caused by gas from the sewerage pipelines.

“Based on the latest information collected from Bomb Disposal Squad and forensic experts, it seems like a case of gas explosion,” a spokesman for the Lahore operations police said on Tuesday. According to police, no casualty was reported in the incident.–Staff Reporter
