Past in Perspective

“The people have stood up to the challenge and resolved never to give in.”
–Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Parade Ground, 23rd March 2015.

The Pakistan Day celebrations are usually held in all provincial capitals; wreaths are laid at the mausoleum of Quaid-e-Azam and AllamaIqbal for example. But the Pakistan Day parade, held in the capital has become an iconic symbol of the day’s celebration that overshadows everything else. Full inter-services joint military parade is rehearsed and broadcast live by the news media all over the country, featuring all sections of the armed forces and civilian tableaus and floats representing the different regions. In the past, the parade was held on Parade Avenue in front of Parliament House and before that, at the Race Course in Rawalpindi. But following the deterioration of the security condition the parade was suspended from 2008 to 2015.
