LAHORE - Chief Justice Lahore High Court Khawaja Muhammad Sharif on Monday took three suo moto notices on news items published and aired by print and electronic media about plight of common people. In the first case, three sanitary workers lost their lives during cleaning a drain. According to details, when the labourers opened a manhole one of them fell into it after poisonous gas unnerved him. His co-worker tried to pull him out but he also fell into it. The CJ directed MD Wasa to appear in person on Tuesday (today) along with complete record of the incident. CJ observed: I would like to know whether any compensation has been given to the victims who died due to non-provision of gadgets. In the second case, the CJ has summoned the SSP Investigation Gujranwala, SHO police station, Wandhu for May 26 (today) along with case record, if any. He also directed the police to produce the victims in the court. As per details accused Muhammad Alam, Tanveer, Jahangir, Atif and Nadeem of village Jaboki, Gujranwala trespassed into the house of their opponent Younas. They humiliated women, blackened their face, removed their clothes and dragged them in the village to teach them a lesson for registering a case of dacoity against them (accused). In the last case, Ali Murtaza along with parents appeared before the Chief Justice in his chamber on Monday. He said he (Ali) is complainant of a case registered with police station South Cantt Lahore for abduction of his sister Sara Yousaf (15). The applicant said the minor girl had not been recovered so far. He also had filed a writ petition in the high court that was disposed of after Inspector Muhammad Akram assurance that he would recover the abductee. But she has not been recovered so far. The CJ has summoned SP Cantt circle, Lahore, Inspector Muhammad Akram and SHO South Cantt police station for May 26 (today). Police is also directed to produce the abductee girl and detailed report of the matter. Police urged to work with devotion Civil Lines SP Sohail Akhtar Sukhera has directed police to work honestly for resolving problems of the people. He also encouraged the masses to cooperate with policemen. He held joint sitting with Baghbanpura Welfare Society Gulshan Shalimar (WSGS) Chairman Haji Gul Sher, DSP Investigation Dr Haider Rizvi and DSP Shalimar Malik Manzoor Ahmad and listened to the grievances of the people at Baghbanpura here on Monday. MPA Ch Shahbaz Ahmad and Khadim Hussain were also present. Speaking on the occasion, Sukhera said it was the prime obligation of the police department to work with devotion and provide security to the masses. He said the police were educated and would never take illegal action against any noble man without any reason. He said the police should also be aware of the fact that the CM Punjab had directed the police high-ups for taking strict actions against corrupt and dishonest officers of the department.
