KARACHI - A conference on National & Democratic Question in Pakistan and Ways & Means for Uprooting Terrorism and Lawlessness, was organised by Awami Tehreek here on Monday. It supported the military operation against Taliban in Swat and other areas of NWFP. The conference also opposed the influx of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to Sindh and other provinces and demanded that it must be stopped, adding that arrangements to restrain the IDPs in NWFP should be made at the state level. The conference expressed solidarity with Balochs, condemned military operation in Balochistan and announced support for Baloch peoples struggle for their rights. Chief of Awami Tehreek, Rasool Bux Palijo, presided over the conference, while lawyers leader and CEC member of the ruling PPP, Barrister Aitzaz Ahsan, PML-N spokesman Siddique-ul-Farooque, and representatives of major parties of the provinces participated in the moot. In another resolution, conference demanded of forming a high-level Investigative Commission to evaluate the results of foreign, military and economic policy being followed by the state/governments since the inception of Pakistan. Rasool Bux Palijo said that the rulers never heed on the realities and policies of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah which were the base of the creation of Pakistan. Condemning the atrocities of Taliban, he said Quaid-e-Azam did not want Pakistan to be a theocratic state. He termed that the foreign policy of Pakistan was always weak and never pro-people. Palijo also opposed the huge number of IDPs coming from operation-hit areas to Sindh, and said Sindh had already occupied by the people who came from other parts of the country, so the government should make arrangements that IDPs must be remained in NWFP. Aitzaz Ahsan said that if state looks after all the small provinces equally than such problems of deprivation of rights would never emerged. The militancy in Swat and other areas was also the result of state policies, he added. If state does not fulfill to its responsibilities to provide education, health and other facilities to citizens, the whole nation will become Swat, he asserted. He also emphasised on provincial autonomy and immediate abolishment of the concurrent list. Siddique-ul-Farooque of PML-N termed that the violation of constitution by ambitious army generals was the main reason behind all the problems of the country. He said that if the democratic process was not disturbed by the army generals, the issues of provincial autonomy and rights of resources would have been resolved. Punjab government has not stopped IDPs for coming in Punjab and Mian Nawaz Sharif and Shahbaz Sharif have already announced every possible support for the displaced people of Swat, he added. Jalal Mehmood Shah, chief of Sindh United Party, said that constitution of the country had no recipe of solution of the problems of smaller provinces as provinces want complete provincial autonomy. Dr Qadir Magsi, chairman of Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party, stressed on the implementation of 1940 Lahore Resolution in its original spirit and said a new social contract should be signed between nationals of Pakistan. Meanwhile, Mujib Pirzado, Abdul Hai Baloch of National Party, Sarwar Bari, Abdul Hakeem Mandokhel of PKMAP, Rauf Sassuli of JWP, Abid Hassan Manto of National Workers Party, Khalique Junejo of JSM and others also spoke on the occasion.
