Supreme Court declares Sharif brothers eligible

The Supreme Court Tuesday declared the disqualification of former prime minister Mian Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif as invalid and allowed them to contest the elections. The larger bench headed by Justice Tassadaq Hussain Jillani and comprising Justice Nasir ul Mulk, Justice Mohammad Musa K Leghari, Justice Shaikh Hakim Ali and Justice Ghulam Rabbani gave its verdict on the review petition of Sharif brothers on Tuesday. The bench reserved its judgment after Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa completed his arguments in Sharif brothers eligibility case today. Attorney General Sardar Latif Khosa in his arguments before the court said that the court had not formally issued notice to Shahbaz Sharif for hearing of the appeal.Non-issuance of notice to Shahbaz Sharif is palpable mistake. It should be reviewed, the Attorney General said.
