ISLAMABAD - Adviser to the Prime Minister on Finance, Economic Affairs, and Planning and Development Division, Dr. Hafeez Sheikh, on Tuesday briefed Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on the next years Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP). During the briefing, Dr. Sheikh was assisted by Dr. Nadeemul Haq, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission, and Ashraf M. Hayat, Secretary Planning Commission. A detailed review of the PSDP was undertaken during the meeting, and guidelines were determined by the PM for the next years development programme. The guidelines included focusing on completion of ongoing projects, avoidance of excessive number of projects, better monitoring to both ensure timely completion of projects and eliminate possibility of cost over run. The PM was also keen to launch those projects on priority basis, which were having a direct positive effect on the poor, and helpful in generating economic activity. The discussion in the meeting was also centred on the upcoming NEC meeting to be held on 28th May, 2010.
