LAHORE - An election tribunal of the Lahore High Court on Tuesday directed PML-N MNA Mudassar Qayyum Nahra to submit reply on the petition seeking his disqualification for winning 2008 elections with bogus BA degree. On Tuesday, Mudassar Qayyum in person appeared before the court of Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed and sought time to hire a counsel which was allowed by the court with direction to come with a reply on his eligibility question on June 17, next date of hearing of the case. The petition was filed by Chaudhry Bilal Ijaz of PML-Q who had lost election against Nahra in NA-100 Gujranwala in 2008 election. The petitioner submitted that Nahra possessed fake BA degree and won 2002 and 2008 elections as MPA and MNA respectively. The petitioner stated that Nahra appeared in BA exams in 1993 but was found guilty of using illegal means by disciplinary committee of the PU and the committee had also disqualified him for three years. Mudassar won the election as an independent candidate but later joined PML-N, he said. The petitioner appealed to the court to declare the respondent disqualified while invoking provisions of Article 62 and 63 of the constitution. Another election petition is pending against Mudassar Qayyum Nahra before the LHCs election tribunal for making false statement in the court claming he possessed genuine degree of BA and he has to yet prove his stance.
