MURREE (APP) - PML-N Quaid Nawaz Sharif Tuesday urged the government to ensure the upcoming federal budget 2010-11 people-friendly, keeping in view the sufferings of the common man. He said the government should evolve an effective strategy to control the increasing price-hike of different items and unemployment in the country. He was addressing a Press conference after chairing a high-level consultative meeting of the party here. Nawaz said the meeting reviewed the prevailing political situation and the national issues. He was of the view that good governance and rule of law are the key to attain progress and prosperity. The PML-N leader said the government must utilise its all resources for welfare of the downtrodden segment of the society and improving living standard of the common man. He said the PML-N believes in independence of judiciary and the government must ensure implementation of the decisions of the Supreme Court in letter and spirit. Nawaz reiterated the party demand that the government should not include the NRO beneficiaries in the cabinet. He condemned the recent incidents of target killings in Karachi and Balochistan and asked the government to bring the culprits involved in the heinous crime to justice. Nawaz Sharif also sought action against the people involved in murder of Baloch leader Akbar Bugti, May 12 Karachi incident and unconstitutional steps of November 3, 2007. He criticised the government for not effectively tackling the energy crisis, adding that it should exploit all available resources to end load-shedding. The PML-N Quaid highlighted the importance of constructing new water reservoirs to meet the growing energy demand in the country. He said national entities like Pakistan International Airlines, WAPDA, Railways, Pakistan State Oil and Pakistan Steel Mills should be reformed into profit-earning organisations so that these could contribute to the national exchequer. Responding to a question, Nawaz Sharif said the government must ensure early recovery of the missing persons to end agonies of their families. To another question, he said Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif would shortly meet Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to apprise him about the party stand on the prevailing political situation in the country. Nawaz said he and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto had signed the Charter of Democracy to strengthen the democratic norms in the country and asked the government to implement the document in its true spirit.
