KARACHI - At least six bandits on Tuesday robbed Rs1.5 million from a private bank branch in broad daylight. The robbers swiftly completed their operation in just 15 minutes. They took the two rifles of the on-duty security guards and also broke the CCTV cameras. They held the entire bank staff hostage and later fled from the scene. One guard sustained injuries due to the firing of one culprit. The incident occurred at 2:35pm sharp at a private bank situated at FB Area, block 14 in Jauharabad police station precincts. Police said three of them barged into the bank while three others stood outside the bank to provide them backup support. They took away rupees 1.5 million with them along with the mobile phones of the seven bank employees. After entering the bank, they first destroyed the security cameras installed in the building. One of the two guards Syed Faisal tried to resist but they opened fire at him and he got injured. They then snatched a rifle from the injured guard and his colleague Abdul Hameed. Police are trying to get the CCTV footages before the cameras were broken so that the identity of the criminals could be ascertained. A special investigation team has been formed to investigate into the matter, police said. An FIR No 338/10 had been lodged against the unknown culprits on the complaint of the bank manager Sajjad Imam and initiated probe.
