LAHORE - Secretary General Jamaat-e-Islami Liaquat Baloch has said President Zardari is trying to protect his corruption by illegal means after coming into power through NRO. Addressing a press conference here at the Lahore Press Club on Tuesday, he said the government had taken full two years in making the 18th constitutional amendment but the crisis was not over and the situation had further complicated. He also presented an analysis of the financial year 2009-10 besides giving proposals for the next year budget on behalf of the JI. Liaquat Baloch said the State Bank report had exposed the government claims. The party promising Roti, Kapra and Makan to the masses had practically taken away every thing from the people while the ruling elite was minting millions with immunity. The countrys industry and agriculture had been ruined due to load shedding and high prices of raw material and farm inputs. Calling for a strict accountability of the rulers, he said the MPs holding fake degrees should be behind the bars. He called for a strict austerity drive, 40 per cent cut in the expenses of the federal and the provincial governments, higher allocations for education, health and public welfare, raising minimum wages to Rs. 10,000 and 50 per cent increase in the pay and pension of the government and semi government employees. He demanded 50 per cent cut in the POL prices in view of the fall in the international market. He suggested constitution of a high-powered parliament committee to fix the POL prices. To a question, he welcomed the High Court ban on the Facebook showing blasphemous caricatures. However, he said, only the relevant page of the Facebook should be banned. He said that under the cover of the Court order, the government had also banned the web sites showing the material against President Zardari. He said the Facebook and other websites showing blasphemous material should be proceeded against under the international charter and Internet MoU.
