MPs annoyed at SHOs attitude

LAHORE - The members of National and Punjab assemblies had expressed annoyance over 'inappropriate attitude of station head officers and investigation officers and complained to the Civil Lines Divisions superintendents of police in this regard, TheNation learnt on Wednesday. Sources said that two joint meetings of SP (Operations) Omer Saeed Malik and SP (Investigation) Cap (r) Liaqat Ali Malik, SHOs and IOs and the peoples representatives were held at Conference Hall in the University of Engineering and Technology a few days ago. The purpose of the meetings was to initiate a fruitful step in order to resolve the masses problems. The sources further said the parliamentarians including Malik Pervaiz, Chaudhry Shahbaz, Wasim Qadir and other emissaries told the SPs that the SHOs and IOs even did not attend their phone calls. The MNAs and MPAs were strongly annoyed with the working style of the police officers but after they expressed their reservations, the SPs assured them of their due cooperation. Meanwhile, an MPA complained against Gujjarpura SHO Saleemullah Khan, alleging that he was corrupt. Resultantly, the SP (Operations) issued orders of his dismissal on the spot and recommended to appoint another SHO - Mohammad Younus. Interestingly, the MPAs and MNAs also complained that whenever their workers used to visit the police station concerned for their various pieces of works none of the SHOs and IOs asked even for refreshments. According to them, some kinds of refreshments like cold drink, a cup of tea or biscuits should be presented to their workers, Mr Omer said when contacted. According to him, such meetings with public leaders and representatives would give positive results in future like restoring trust of public in police department. Mr Omer added he along with SP Liaqat Ali Malik would hold an open court at Mughalpura police station on Saturday in connection with their meetings. Mr Malik, however, said this was a mutual brainchild of them (SPs) in order to utilise the efforts of local representatives in resolving problems. In fact, the local leaders are more familiar to the issues and problems of the masses so their expert opinion is necessary for genuine issues, he added. Replying to a query regarding illegal pressure of MPAs, MNAs and local representatives on various cases, Malik claimed since his appointment as SP, he received neither a phone call for illegal work or evil design nor he believed in such task. Frankly speaking, I will never respond to such pressure or illegal influence but if the issue is genuine, I will defiantly take keen interest without seeing any one has phoned me or not, he pledged.
