A new petition has been moved to the Lahore High Court seeking action against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif for his interview about the Mumbai attacks, and also against Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi for unveiling minutes of National Security Council’s meeting to the former premier
Amna Malik, a local citizen, has moved the petition through Advocate Azhar Siddiqe and made federal government, Election Commission, Senate Chairman and National Assembly Speaker as respondents. Nawaz Sharif in his recent interview to an English Daily damaged the country’s security and image across the world, the petitioner said. She said recently a meeting of the National Security Council was held to discuss ‘misleading’ media statement of disqualified prime minister and after the meeting Prime Minister Abbasi met Sharif and conveyed to him the concerns of the military leadership. She questioned the act of prime minister Abbasi saying that he violated his oath as he bound to maintain the decorum of his office conduct.
Amna said that ousted primer rejected the National Security meeting and thus has committed sedition under the law for which he must be punished. She said Nawaz Sharif also unveiled the national secrets and violated the Constitution while Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and Senator Ishaq Dar supported the interview of ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif. By doing this, she said they caused damage to the national security and national interest.
She said PM Abbasi neither ordered for investigation of the interview nor did he bring the facts to the record. She asked the court to disqualify the respondents and order criminal cases against them.
A LHC full bench led by Justice Sayyed Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi will take up the petition on May 29. –Staff Reporter
