SAU starts project to shrink capacity of stray dogs

TANDO JAM - A project has been formally launched to reduce the reproductive capacity of stray dogs hosted by Sindh Agriculture University. 

Vice Chancellor (VC) of Sindh Agricultural University Dr Fateh Marri reviewed the ongoing operation on Tuesday and expressed satisfaction. In order to reduce the scourge of stray dogs in Tando Jam city and affiliated areas, formal practical work has been started on a project to reduce reproductive the capacity of stray dogs.

On the directions of Marri, the Department of Surgery, Faculty of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Sciences of Agricultural University, has started operations under the supervision of Dr Ahmad Nawaz Tunio, a veterinary expert, to reduce the reproductive capacity in dogs.

VC Marri visited the Operation Theater, inaugurated and reviewed the ongoing work and praised the efforts and excellent work of Tunio, Chairman, Department of Surgery and his team. 

On the occasion, addressing the experts and students, the VC said that the project would reduce the quickly increasing breeds of dogs and reduce the incidence of dog bites, while without killing dogs their breed and number can be reduced. 

He said that after the success of the project, it could be extended to other areas and efforts would be made to extend projects or MoUs with the concerned departments and agencies to run the project on a large scale.

On the occasion, Dean Dr Syed Ghiyasuddin Shah Rashdi and Dr Ahmad Nawaz Tunio said that on the instructions of the VC, small-scale technical work has been started to reduce the reproductive capacity of dogs at Tando Jam and related areas. He said stray dogs are being operated on so that there is no need to kill the dogs. He told that students have also taken an interest in the research work and have started participating in the operation.
