President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo's allies in the Philippine Congress have dismissed a fourth impeachment complaint filed against her in as many years for alleged corruption and other crimes. Pro-Arroyo Rep. Edcel Lagman says the opposition only resurrected old allegations in their Wednesday bid. The opposition accuses Arroyo of corruption, abuse of power and violations of the constitution and human rights. Opposition leaders vowed to try to impeach her again in 2009 _ a year before her term ends _ and some warned of other options to remove her from office. Arroyo succeeded Joseph Estrada, who was ousted in a 2001 "people power'' revolt, then won her own six-year term in 2004 in a vote that the opposition claimed she rigged.
