A plot for the needy

According to the notification number 7/40/2005-E.2 of the Establishment Division, Cabinet Secretariat, a financial assistance package was announced and approved for the families of government employees who die in service. The bereaved families were deemed to have entitlement for a plot of land. Many applications of that nature are already pending for attention of the concerned high officials of the state. It is also pertinent to mention here that a few among these are of special importance also but are still lying in files awaiting presentation. These families have no permanent home or proper shelter. There is, therefore, an urgent need for government to take the necessary steps for rehabilitating these helpless families. The Ministry of Housing & Works, though, is not pursuing this matter very seriously. I would like to ask the minister to tell the public how many cases of this nature have been processed since approval of the aforementioned package and how many families have been allotted plots till today? I would request the Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Chief Justice of Pakistan also to intervene in this matter and help out the needy families. -MUHAMMAD WASEEM ELAHI, Islamabad, November 25.
