New commanders of Naval Fleet, Logistics take over

KARACHI - With immediate effect Rear Admiral Tanveer Faiz has taken over as Commander Pakistan Fleet whereas Rear Admiral Asif Sandila has assumed the Logistics Command of Pakistan Navy. As Fleet Commander, Rear Admiral Tanveer Faiz would exercise full operational and administrative control over all Fleet Units comprising destroyers, submarines, missile boats and naval air arm besides other supporting establishments. In capacity of Commander Logistics, Rear Admiral Asif Sandila will be incharge of all PN construction/ repair facilities, logistic units and depots. Rear Admiral Tanveer Faiz got commission in the operations branch of Pakistan Navy in 1975 and joined submarine service. He served on various operational billets and commanded two submarines and a guided missile destroyer. He has also served as commander submarine squadron. His staff appointments include Director Naval Intelligence, Chief of Staff to Commander Pakistan Fleet, Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Operations), Additional Secretary at Ministry of Defence and Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Projects). He also served as Naval Attach_ to China. He is a graduate of Naval War College and National Defence University Islamabad. Before assuming the operational command he was deputed as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (operations). He is a recipient of Sitara-e-Imtiaz (Military). Rear Admiral Asif Sandila was commissioned in the Operations Branch of Pakistan Navy in 1975. He has commanded a destroyer PNS BADR and subsequently 25th destroyer squadron. At Naval Headquarters, he has served as Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Operations). He has also served as Director Project (Plans), Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Plans), Deputy Chief of Naval Staff (Project) and Director General Maritime Security Agency. He did Naval Command and Staff course from Indonesia and M.Sc. (War Studies) form National Defense University, Islamabad. He is a recipient of Sitare-e-Imtiaz (Military) and French Medal for rescue of 30 French nationals in Maldives during Tsunami in December 2006. Before taking over as commander logistics, he was serving as commander Pakistan Fleet. The change of Fleet and Logistics command ceremonies were held at PN Dockyard and PN Missile Complex, respectively. Large number of senior naval officers, officers and sailors attended the change of command ceremonies.
