Our Staff Reporter KHANEWAL - The death toll from consumption of toxic liquor rose to 18 on Friday as five more people breathed their last at different hospitals while Khanewal DPO Waqar Abbasi has suspended the Saddar Police SHO and sought explanation from Saddar DSP Shahzad Manzoor. It is to be noted that 13 people died after consuming toxic liquor in Chak 80/10R Pirowal, Khanewal the other day. According to detail, five more affected people of toxic liquor died in different hospitals of Khanewal. They were identified as: Muhammad Akram son of Muhabbat Hussain, Asif son of Allah Bakhash, Altaf son of Machiya, and Qaisar while the identity of the fifth could not be ascertained. Meanwhile, DPO Waqar Abbasi told the mediamen that Saddar Police SHO Qamar Bhatti had been suspended with immediate effect and DSP Saddar Shahzad Manzoor was directed to explain his position for poor monitoring of drug-trafficking, negligence of duties and failure to take strict action against drug-traffickers. The DPO also informed that that main character of the tragic episode was decease Niaz alias Gabbo who also fell victim to toxic liquor the other day. He said that the police had arrested Gabbo about two month ago in a drug-trafficking case but was later released on bail by a court. It is to noted that the ugly incident was during the wedding ceremony of one Abdul Ghafoor wherein about 35 people were affected taking poisonous liquor.
