Rawalpindi - A 32-year-old principal of a private educational institution committed suicide by shooting himself into the forehead with a pistol in his office at Mughalabad within the limits of Police Station RA Bazaar on Tuesday.

Rescue 1122, while responding to an emergency call, arrived at the scene and shifted the dead body to District Headquarters Hospital, where the deceased was identified as Syed Ali Zaidi.

Police took the weapon into custody and started investigation, besides mentioning the incident in daily crime register.

According to Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Imran of PS RA Bazaar, who rushed to the scene along with police party and is investigating the suicide case, told this scribe that a female teacher and maid stated before police that they were busy in their routine work when they heard sound of gunshot from the office of the principal.

“We saw our principal lying in pool of blood and a pistol near his dead body,” Assistant Sub-Inspector quoted the two witnesses as saying.

He said that police could only find a weapon and blood on the scene as Rescue 1122 had transported the dead body to District Headquarters Hospital before arrival of police.

He informed that Ali was unmarried and his parents had died.

He said that police placed dead body in mortuary and requested doctors to carry out post mortem.

A doctor, who conducted external postmortem, told police that it was apparently a suicide case as the victim shot him dead with contact of skin.

On the other hand, the incident spread a wave of terror among the schoolchildren and their parents, who immediately took their children back to homes.
